The 2011 Charge Conference will be at the Memphis UMC on Tuesday, October 25th beginning at 7:00 p.m. A charge conference is Methodist talk for the annual business meeting of a congregation. According to our Church Law (and yes we do have such a thing) certain actions must be done at a charge conference. These would include actions such as election of local church officers, election of required committees/teams, approval of lay speakers, and approval of the pastor’s salary package.
This is an important meeting and all are invited to attend.

November 1 is All Saints Day, which we will recognize on Sunday November 6, 2011. This is a day in which we solemnly remember those in our congregation who have died since November 1st, 2010. I am asking you to submit the names of immediate family who have joined the “church triumphant” so that we can read their name out loud during the worship service. These names can be given to LeAnn or me, or you can email them to the church office at mempumc@nemr.net.

Is God unfair?
Jesus tells a parable about the nature of the Reign of God. Jesus told the story about an estate manager who went out early in the morning and hired a group of day laborers. Later about noon and then a couple of hours before quitting time he hired two other groups of workers. At the end of the day when the money was distributed he instructed the newest workers to be paid first and then move backwards till the first group had received their wages. He paid each group the same day wages that were agreed upon

Many years ago, a well known Christian musician was on the “Larry King Live” show describing his path from success through drugs and a life out of control. He talked about a desperate night where he found himself face down on his kitchen floor crying out to God for salvation. “I woke up the next day,” he said, “and I haven’t been the same since.” Now over thirty years later, this singer says, “I just give credit to the Lord. I think God just rescued me.”
Thomas C. Long commenting on this story described why this story, and others like

As we approach upcoming graduations, and also Mother’s Day (May 9), I think about the power of prayer. For just one child to successfully grow to adulthood and make it to graduation, how many prayers were said by mothers and grand-mothers and numerous other relatives? The answer must be staggeringly high.
Considering the many obstacles our children manage to overcome, and the number of times we and they make it through to the other side of situations, there is much reason to be thankful to God and to believe in the great power of prayer.
Maybe that’s why people are

In Acts 14:22 we read, “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God.” There are a number of things lately that have brought this scripture verse to mind: the Haiti earthquake, the current economic crisis, weekly snowstorms, multiple funerals, etc. Jesus himself told His disciples: “In this world you will have trouble” (John 16:33). He sure knew what He was talking about!
While sharing the gospel with others, Peter and John discovered trouble. Paul discovered the same thing. The Good News isn’t considered “good” by everyone.
When Paul and Barnabas began their mission work with a
